On December 8, 2004,, Abbott was shot and killed by a deranged fan while on stage with Damage plan at the Al Rosa Villa nightclub in Columbus, Ohio. Three others were shot and killed before the perpetrator was killed by a police officer. He was a lead guitarist in PANTERA.
