On this page, you find several fretboard diagrams for the Super Locrian (Alt Dominant) bb7 scale, with box and 3 notes per string patterns.
The Super Locrian bb7 Scale scale is made up of the Root, Minor Second, Minor Third, Diminished Fourth, Diminished Fifth, Minor Sixth, and Diminished Seventh
The notes in this scale are G# A B C D E and F
The super Locrian bb7 scale is the seventh mode of the Harmonic minor scale. It is also known as Ultra Locrian, Super Locrian Diminished. This scale rarely used in jazz and other styles because of its unstable and dissonant sound.
The formula is 1 – b2 – b3 – b4 – b5 – b6 – bb7. You may notice that the Ultra Locrian mode contains a typical interval, the T or ST step found in all the modes of the harmonic minor scale.
When harmonizing the super Locrian mode, we obtain a diminished 7 chord (1 – b3 – b5 – bb7), meaning that theoretically you can play this scale over any dim7 chord, but must be used with caution because the b4 creates a strong dissonance.
As you can see in the chart below, there is a slight difference between the super Locrian diminished mode and the altered scale (super Locrian).
Here below you’ll find a series of diagrams representing the Super Locrian diminished scale on the guitar neck :
One-octave shapes – The notes are grouped within the space of one octave.
Two-octave shapes – The notes are played spanning two octaves.
3 NPS – The position uses 3 notes per string, thus covering the whole guitar neck.
